I never anticipated delving into a book centered around psychotherapy, but my curiosity led me to dive into “The James Tapes: Book One”. I’m glad that I did. Dr. Brende’s narrative, chronicling his years of therapy with James and his myriad personalities, is both captivating and enlightening. Striking a balance between depth and accessibility, Dr. Brende weaves a compelling tale of James while offering a comprehensible glimpse into a realm of psychiatry, even for those unacquainted with the medical field. Dr. Brende’s account serves as an open window into the human mind’s strengths and vulnerabilities, as well as the formidable hurdles involved in guiding it back to a healthy, or at least manageable, state through therapy. “The James Tapes: Book One” indicates the story isn’t wrapped up in this book. I am so looking forward to “The James Tapes: Book Two” and the story’s conclusion.

“Dr. Brende’s account of his treatment of a patient with multiple personality disorder is both fascinating and informative. Multiple personality disorder is not that well understood, and Brende’s work with James, videotaped over a period of years, offers a rare glimpse into the psyche of an MPD patient. Dr. Brende’s broad clinical experience with psychotherapy and hypnosis combined with his clear, “down to earth” writing style, makes this account an important contribution to the field.”

“Hello Dr. Brende, Congratulations on your book. I purchased and read it, and found it absolutely fascinating. Your therapeutic work with James/Jay/Shae/Jimmy/Jim was outstanding. I’m so glad you had the foresight to videotape your sessions years ago in order to further the knowledge of others now. God bless this gentleman who most definitely experienced a living nightmare and God bless you for helping him. Will there be additional books to follow? I can’t wait for the next book!!!”

“Joel, I  enjoyed the book.  Rewarding to learn more how you tick aside from music!. We have used some art therapy in our sessions and found it helpful too. Oh, and the language professor in me compliments your style and presentation😋. When may I expect book 2? “

“Incredible probe into the complexities of the human brain.  I admire your patient and respectful therapy in treating James, and it leaves me confident that James will be in a much better place as a result.  Seems like a very difficult journey, and maybe uncharted territory?  Although I didn’t understand much of the technical terminology, the book was a fascinating look into psychotherapy.  Book 2 will be interesting.”
